Professional Hopes and Goals

HOPE:  One hope that I have when I think about children and families that come from diverse backgrounds is that one day all children and families will be treated equally despite diversity.  I realize that this is a hope and not reality within our society today.  I do not think my hope is unrealistic, but I do believe many changes need to occur before my hope becomes a reality.  You need to have hopes and dreams in order to set goals in life.

GOAL: A goal that I would like to set for the early educational field in regards to diversity, equity and social justice is to set a standard where all educational programs have to become educated in the field of diversity, equity and social justice.  I have learned that in order to provide high-quality service one must understand diversity.  It is important for everyone involved within the field to understand diversity, equity and social justice.  It is important to take the time to self-reflect and grow as a person.  It would be wonderful to see a standard set in place that insures people in the educational field (whether they have a degree or not) has the knowledge to properly guide and teach young children.

I wanted to give a personal thank you to all my colleagues over the past eight weeks.  Diversity is a complex topic.  It is difficult to open up to complete strangers and share personal challenges, goals, and reflections.  I truly appreciate all your stories, insights, opinions, annotations and concerns that you have shared with me.    You have helped me grow and develop in to better person. Good luck with all of your adventures and goals in the future.
